Dr. Stephen A. LoBue is a distinguished ophthalmologist and the Director of Research at LoBue Laser and Eye Medical Centers Inc. He brings extensive expertise in cataract, refractive, and anterior segment surgeries, having completed a high-volume fellowship at Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. During his fellowship, Dr. LoBue performed over 3,000 procedures, including corneal crosslinking, LASIK, SMILE, PRK, ICL, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, laser cataract surgery with premium IOLs, complex cataract surgery, and sutured secondary lens placement.
Dr. LoBue’s medical journey began with his residency at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY, where he was recognized for his bravery during the COVID-19 pandemic and served as chief resident in his senior year. His passion for research was ignited during his medical school years at St. George’s University, where he earned a distinction in research. To further hone his research skills, he completed a two-year vitreoretinal research fellowship under the guidance of Dr. Timothy W. Olsen at Emory University and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, focusing on surgical treatments for age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
In 2017, Dr. LoBue became the Director of Research at LoBue Laser and Eye Medical Center, overseeing over 28 clinical trials. He is also the Director of Research for Glaive Medical Optics, a company dedicated to developing lens-based treatments for macular degeneration, which has successfully completed phase one of initial funding.
Dr. LoBue’s commitment to evidence-based medicine has led to his recent appointment as the Research Director in the Department of Ophthalmology at Willis-Knighton Medical Center. There, he focuses on cataract and refractive surgery research and improving patient outcomes, supported by a dedicated post-graduate research fellow. He has published over 75 abstracts and peer-reviewed articles, continually advancing the field of ophthalmology.
Dr. LoBue is currently accepting new patients and is eager to bring his expertise in evidence-based medicine to improve patient outcomes and experiences in the Riverside area.
