More About Richard Burns, M.D.
Dr Burn’s practice has been exclusively limited to cataract and refractive surgery for more than 25 years. Other ophthalmologists often refer the most challenging and complicated cases to Dr. Burns.
Prior to joining NVISION®, Dr. Burns was the Chairman of the Department of Surgery as well as the Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the largest multi- specialty group in San Diego. Currently, he also has a private practice in San Diego and is the Director of Refractive Surgical Services for California Eye Professionals in Temecula. He has served as the clinical instructor of ophthalmology for the University of California, San Diego, where he previously completed his residency and served as chief resident. He was also the chief of ophthalmology at Sharp Cabrillo Hospital, where he treated patients for more than eight years.
Dr. Burns is renowned for his success working with other ophthalmologists as well as optometrists. A frequent lecturer on refractive and cataract procedures, Dr. Burns has also appeared on many television and radio programs sharing information about laser vision correction. Involved with LASIK surgery since the start of his career, Dr. Burns truly enjoys freeing people from contacts and glasses and has worked with celebrities such as Javier Colon; winner of first season of the television show, The Voice.
Cataract surgery using lasers is the most advanced method employed today and Dr. Burns introduced the LenSx laser to Riverside County in 2011, becoming the ninth surgeon in the country to use this type of procedure. This has drawn many patients from all over the country, including Cindy Williams, one of the stars in the television shows, Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley. With over several thousand laser cataract surgeries to his credit, he is one of the most experienced laser cataract surgeons in the country.
In his spare time, Dr. Burns enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, playing basketball, hiking, and traveling. He is also an avid reader, particularly about history. He is involved in various local charitable works and participates in an annual work mission to Fiji.
