At NVISION, our doctors use only the most technologically advanced laser equipment for your laser vision correction surgery. Participating in FDA trials for lasers from the very beginning, many of the NVISION doctors have been instrumental in the development of today’s state-of-the-art laser equipment and were among the first to use them.

Ziemer Crystal Line Technology
NVISION was the first laser eye center in California to offer the latest and most advanced Femto surgical laser – the Ziemer Crystal Line. This laser is used to shape and create the corneal flap, which is the first step of the bladeless Custom LASIK procedure. Wavefront analyzing devices (aberrometers) include the Alcon LADARVision®, Bausch & Lomb Technolas®, and VISX® CustomVue™ systems. The wavefront analyzer measures the passage of light through the eye. It employs a system in which rays of light are measured as they come out of the eye after being influenced by the different parts of its structure, such as the tear film, the anterior and posterior cornea, the lens, the vitreous fluid, and the retina.
The values recorded give the doctor the ability to observe both the direction and magnitude of each aberration or defect. Depending on the degree and number of aberrations identified, the doctor can determine whether the patient should proceed with conventional treatment or a custom LASIK procedure.
The data can then be fed into an excimer laser equipped with specialized software to execute a custom LASIK treatment that compensates for aberrations, allowing for better postoperative visual acuity and better vision under low-light conditions.
Alcon Autonomous (LADARVision) and Alcon LADARWave (Custom LASIK)
The Alcon LADARVision with CustomCornea first captures the patient’s eyes’ unique combination of higher and lower aberrations and creates a wavefront map of each eye by shining an eye-safe beam of laser light into the eye and measuring the light waves as they pass through the patient’s visual system and exit the eye. The wavefront map is then entered into the laser system and converted to a guide for the laser.
When the surgery is ready to begin, the map is computer-matched with the eye’s exact position so the treatment is extremely precise. Since each eye has its own unique wavefront map, laser vision correction is truly customized. In the third step, the cornea is precisely reshaped guided by the data from wavefront map. This treatment is designed to correct the patient’s unique profile of both lower and higher order aberrations at the same time.
Allegretto Wavelight 200HTZ and Allegretto Wavelight 200HTZ Wave Guided Lasers
Manufactured by Wavelight of Erlangen, Germany, these advanced vision-correcting lasers are the fastest and most precise lasers for vision correction available in the United States today. Employing “PerfectPulse Technology,” the Allegretto lasers safely and accurately control every single laser pulse from start to finish. This laser is used to treat a wide range of vision conditions, including nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, incorporating wavefront-optimized treatment principles.
Some of the features that help differentiate and distinguish the Allegretto laser from the competition include the following:
- Exceptionally stable laser engine, affording very stable performance over typical laser treatment time intervals;
- Extremely precise calibration;
- The only laser system to address the “cosine correction offset” problem;
- The only laser to take into account the starting curvature radius of the cornea being treated, with the intent to preserve the naturally aspheric (“prolate”) corneal shape after treatment; and
- The ability to improve the quality of night vision to be even better than night vision quality before treatment, with either glasses or contact lenses (based on clinical data presented to the FDA).
Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217
The Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217 is the one of the most frequently used lasers in the world. Clinical trials have shown that 99.7 percent of all patients whose surgeons used this laser achieved 20/40 vision or better without the further use of contact lenses or glasses. It has been widely established as the market leader for treating nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217 Zyoptiz (Custom LASIK)
Using flying spot technology, the Zyoptix® System, the world’s leading wavefront-guided laser for personalized vision correction, allows surgeons to treat myopia up to -7.00 Diopters and astigmatism up to -3.00 Diopters. The Zyoptix® System combines both a 2mm and 1mm truncated Gaussian beam with an active eye tracker for fast treatment times and a smooth stromal bed.
iFS Intralase™ is the new fifth-generation laser that makes laser vision correction completely bladeless. Using the iFS Intralase, the surgeon uses as little as nine seconds to create the corneal flap. This helps increase your comfort and improves healing.
LASIK previously required a traditional blade to create the corneal flap. The iFS IntraLase laser virtually eliminates the major complications associated with the microkeratome blade. Besides being much safer, the IntraLase laser is also more accurate (up to 100 times more precise), and patients are more likely to achieve vision that is 20/20 or better. The risk of experiencing dry eyes is also decreased with the use of the IntraLase laser.
VISX Star S4
The VISX STAR S4 is well known for its dependability and performance. It integrates data collected by the WaveScan WaveFront System and uses exclusive VISX technologies to deliver precision custom ablations, including variable spot scanning, variable repetition rates, and ActiveTrak.
- Variable Spot Scanning (VSS): Scans variable beam sizes from as small as 0.65 mm up to 6.5 mm over the treatment area, conserving tissue and optimizing treatment times.
- Variable Repetition Rate (VRR): Delivers treatment at varying repetition rates, optimizing treatment time.
- ActiveTrak 3-D Active Eye Tracking: Captures all 3 dimensions of intra-operative eye movements—no dilation required.
- ActiveTrak Automatic Centering: Locates, and then automatically sets the treatment center to the center of the pupil.
VISX CustomVue (Custom LASIK)
The VISX laser allows surgeons to measure and follow the patient’s eye movement during refractive surgery with unprecedented accuracy and flexibility, improving the safety and speed of the procedure.
Together, the WaveScan WaveFront System and STAR S4 Excimer Laser System deliver unprecedented levels of measurement accuracy and deliver outstanding treatment precision essential to the CustomVue procedure.
