Glaucoma is a serious eye disease that can lead to permanent damage to the optic nerve and result in permanent blindness. Glaucoma often starts with unnoticeable blind spots, then tunnel vision, and finally blindness. There is a known relationship between diabetes and open-angle glaucoma (the most common type of glaucoma). Early detection of glaucoma is vital if a surgeon is to successfully treat the condition. Most optometrists check for glaucoma during regular eye exams.
What is NVISION’s approach to treating glaucoma?
If an NVISION doctor is suspicious of glaucoma in the screening process, a referral is made to a glaucoma specialist for baseline testing. Once the baseline testing is completed, and depending on if treatment is initiated by the glaucoma specialist, it is still all right to have LASIK.
