Meet NVISION’s In-house Clinical Directors and Optometrists in Newport Beach:
Julie Chen, O.D., Clinical Director
As clinical director of NVISION Newport Beach, Dr. Chen participates in providing pre- and post-operative care for the center’s laser refractive surgery patients and is responsible for developing and overseeing relationships with local optometrists and other eye care professionals. She also oversees the NVISION Newport Beach staff to ensure the highest possible quality of care for its patients.
Dr. Chen received her D.O. degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her BS in Biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego. She has participated in several clinical studies and is currently a subclinical investigator of an FDA clinical trial to reduce or even eliminate the need for reading glasses. She has more than 10 years of experience and has been with NVISION Newport Beach since 2006.
Matthew Brown, O.D., Clinical Optometrist
As the clinical optometrist for NVISION Newport Beach, Dr. Brown is responsible for pre- and post-operative care of anterior segment surgery, including refractive, laser, cataract and pterygium patients. He also provides consultations for refractive eye surgery patients and second opinions for referring optometrists. He has provided comprehensive eye exams on more than 50,000 LASIK patients and has participated in FDA approval studies for several excimer lasers.
Dr. Brown received his O.D. degree from the Southern California College of Optometry and his BS in Zoology from California State University, Long Beach.
Dan B. Carver, O.D., Optometric Liaison
As the Regional Optometric Liaison, Dr. Carver is responsible for communications between NVISION and its extensive optometric affiliate network. Additionally, he is involved in patient care at the NVISION Newport Beach office twice monthly, and, as an adjunct assistant clinical professor, he directs the clinical rotation in refractive surgery for the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO).
Dr. Carver received his O.D. degree from SCCO and completed his undergraduate education at the University of Utah. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
Amy Vu, OD., Clinical Director
As clinical director at NVISION Newport Beach, Dr. Vu is responsible for the management of pre- and post-operative refractive surgery patients. While at NVISION, she has conducted calculations of intraocular refractive lenses and has participated in refractive studies.
Dr. Vu received her O.D. degree from Nova Southeastern University and completed her BS in Biology at the University of California, Irvine. She is a member of the American Optometric Association. She speaks conversational Vietnamese and Spanish.
